17-11-2011 Umberto Cesari is Italian Wine Producer of the Year.
Umberto Cesari has won the Best Italian Wine Producer of the Year Trophy.
This prestigious tribute, which in past years has been awarded to such eminent
wineries as Vicchiomaggio, Zenato, and Farnese, was conferred this year upon
the Castel San Pietro-based wine house in recognition of the many top medals
that the International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) has awarded to
Umberto Cesari wines, including Gold Medal Best in Class for Tauleto 2005,
Silver Medal Best in Class for Yemula 2008, Silver Medals for Moma Rosso 2009
and Liano 2008, and Bronze Medals for Moma Bianco 2010 and Sangiovese Riserva 2008.

The IWSC, from its founding in 1969, has become one of the most highly-respected
international wine competitions and the most influential in Great Britain, since it
judges world-class wines from across the globe. The competition enjoys the support
of international wine leaders of the stature of Miguel Torres, Piero Antinori, and Michael
Mondavi, and of over 40 members of the Institute of Masters of Wine, who serve on the
tasting panels and are a guarantee of the uncompromising quality of the wines selected.

Because of its rigorous standards, the awards received from the IWSC are
widely-acknowledged as synonymous with absolute quality. During the competition
process, the wines are judged by a 180-member jury in two separate stages. Blind
tastings ensure professionalism and absolute impartiality, while meticulous chemical
analyses guarantee that the wines have been produced in conformity with all
wine-making regulations, and in particular that they possess the qualities that will
enable the wines to preserve over time the characteristics that won them such recognition.

The London trophy crowns a wine producer that for over 40 years has been striving to develop
the full potential of its local area and of its indigenous grape varieties. Its long history has
brought success to Umberto Cesari, which today produces 3 million bottles per year.
The winery exports over 70% of its production, with its wines present in more than 60 countries,
from North America to the Far East, not to mention throughout the European markets, their
common denominator being a passionate commitment to high-quality Sangiovese.

“It is truly a great honour to receive the award of Italian Wine Producer of the Year,”
stated Umberto Cesari, who personally took possession of the award in a gala evening in
London’s Guildhall. “It constitutes an invaluable tribute to the commitment with which I have
always performed my work. But it would not have been possible without the support of all of
my colleagues and fellow workers. I want to share this trophy with them and with all those,
both customers and others, who have given me their support over the years.”
